    Notepad++ is good. Emacs and vim I think work on windows and Mac as well I think. I also wanted to point out that I would describe an IDE as a collection of integrated software – an editor, a revision control system, a project manager. Pretty much a complex application to do many functions which normally would be done by separate applications. Because of that it hides a lot of important features. I prefer not to use IDE esp. if it’s something which is going to be my livelihood.
